Top 10 Hotel Groups

Chris’ personal picks from places in the world that he has visited.

Couples:  For weddings, honeymoons, vow renewals or just plain romancing, the four Couples resorts in Jamaica are perfect. Situated in Ocho Rios and Negril, the resorts are focused on creating the perfect atmosphere for lovers. Readers of Travel and Leisure Magazine voted them as the highest rated all inclusive resorts in the Caribbean.

Paradores:  Experience Spain in a very special way by staying at the Paradores. These luxury state-run hotels are not conventional hotels. The Paradores are in old castles, palaces and buildings with centuries of history…but with all the comforts of the twenty-first century. They are the ideal base to get to know Spain.

Barcelo:  Barcelo Hotels and Resorts is one of the most respected names in the world for all-inclusive vacations.  It operates 185 hotels in 15 countries around the world. Within this vast range, there are casino hotels, golf hotels, spa hotels, family hotels, adult hotels and even city hotels – something for everyone.

Fairmont:  This is the hotel group with the biggest wow! factor…They have hotels across the world, but their Canadian resorts in particular are iconic: Le Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City, Chateau Lake Louise in the Rockies and the Banff Springs are extraordinary places combining unique architecture and wondrous locations.

Sol Melia:  If you’ve heard of Paradisus Tryp, Melia, or Sol Hotels…then you know Sol Melia. Their different brands reflect different price points and inclusions, from value to luxury, and with over 300 hotels in 30 countries, their range is Impressive – never more so than in Cuba, where some of my favourite Sol Melia resorts are located.

Best Western:  I love these guys because you can find them everywhere and they’re so consistent. It’s the world's largest hotel brand with more than 4,000 hotels in 80 countries. Each hotel has an individual charm and local appeal yet maintains a reliable quality, service and value. They have a great rewards program too.

SuperClubs: Their tag-line is ‘everything's included and anything's possible’. They have pioneered the idea of ‘Super-Inclusive’ resorts which include Breezes Resorts & Spas and the infamous adults-only Hedonism Resorts, which fully lives up to its name! They are located across the Caribbean and there’s also a couple in Brazil too.

Disney Resorts:  The best way to enter fully into the magical lands of Walt Disney World is to stay at one of the Disney Resorts. There’s an option for all tastes and wallets: from Deluxe Resort Hotels such as the Polynesian to the campgrounds of Fort Wilderness Resort via Deluxe Villas and Value Resorts. And you might just bump into Mickey!

RIU:  From a single family-run hotel in Majorca in the 1950’s, RIU has grown to become perhaps the most successful of the ‘mega all-inclusive’ resorts. It is now run by the third generation of Riu family members, but in association with the world’s largest tour operator, which may be why guests seem to enjoy the best of both worlds.

Club Med:  Sixty years old now and still going strong, Club Med keeps re-inventing itself to stay as relevant as always, combining the best of French-style hospitality with tons of professionally-run activities. I learnt to scuba and fly on the trapeze with them and their Kids Club in Florida was a huge success with my youngster.
